The Tonic Tavern’s Winter Warmer series is a new concept to present a music forward concert experience at this cool Bay View music venue. Here is what concert organizer Jeff Stehr had to say.
“It’s February 15th in Wisconsin and the slow, steady slog from Winter to Spring is about to begin. What coping skills and diversions do you lean on to get through this annual rite of passage? I’d like to suggest you check out the new Tonic Tavern Winter Warmer Concert Series, which is set to begin just ten days from now.
Shrinking the space between artist and audience, we’re offering local live music-lovers a chance to connect with some of Milwaukee’s most talented singers, songwriters and performers in an intimate, artist-oriented setting. Gather round the fire. This is a space where songs and the stories behind them take center stage.
We kick things off on Saturday, February 25th with a solo performance by local Folk / Blues / Americana champion John Stano. Last summer, when I was hosting the Charles E. Fromage Summer Music Series, we booked John for the first time. He is a perfect fit for this fab new format. An adept writer and an agile, articulate picker, John’s dynamic playing and story telling will draw you in whether he’s strumming his Epiphone 12 string, sliding around on his National Resonator or pulling songs from his trusty six string. John’s singing calls us to the same clearing that John Prine helped create during his climb from Chicago mailman to the highest peaks of American folk music.
Tonic’s Winter Warmer Concert Series is a ticketed event. Most shows have thirty seats available. Once those are gone, you can still secure standing room access, but this series summons a very “gather-round-and-pull-up-a-chair” kind of vibe, so order tickets early and secure a seat. Tickets for John’s 7:00pm, 2/25 show are ten dollars ($15 day of show) and it’s just ten days away.”
